This role drives end-to-end product development across a diverse brand portfolio, collaborating with R&D, Marketing, and Manufacturing teams to deliver science-backed, consumer-focused health innovations. Overseeing a team of 50 in Formulation, Analytical Development, and Process Scale-up, the leader fosters a consumer-centric culture aligned with Opella’s vision of being a top Fast Moving Consumer Health company globally. The position also focuses on enhancing the development center's capabilities by integrating unique technologies, new raw materials, and innovative product forms through partnerships. Additionally, it ensures quality and safety standards at the Compiegne Development Center in coordination with Quality and HSE teams.

Leadership of the analytical development department within the CHC development center of Compiegne, requiring a strong technical background in the analytical fields (methods, techniques, analysis, statistics) , strong leadership and team management as well as great communication skills, result and customer orientation

1. Full management accountability for the assigned Analytical development department

The analytical development head will have the responsibility for the overall lead, management and coordination of the analytical department including a team of analytical team leaders, analytical experts and analytical technicians.

Strong leadership and managerial skills are essential to ensure good and effective team work organization and execution, in line with the required high development standard and internal operative procedures.

Responsible for the training, development and management of direct reports and the analytical staff in general to ensure effective ways of working and activities execution.

2. Research and development activities

He / she has the responsibility to lead and coordinate the laboratory R&D activities:

  • Analytical method development, validation and transfer for the ongoing development projects
  • Overall analytical project support/overseen for the ongoing development projects
  • Participation in the creation and review of analytical protocols, procedures and reports
  • Global NPD analytical development project/programs in the frame of harmonization of the ways of working across centers and/or the manufacturing site
  • Demonstrate familiarity with ICH and similar global regulatory standards
  • Extend normal ways of working to foster true analytical innovation.

3. Communication and customer relationship

  • Being the main interface of the analytical laboratory, he/she will:
  • Be the spoke-person for the analytical department of the development center
  • Be comfortable with the proactive management and communication of project risk.
  • Present/Co-present analytical project results and department progresses to the project team members and upper management whenever needed
  • Prepare materials (presentations, publications) to advertise the capabilies and success of the analytical team to a broader corporate audience and the industry at large.
  • Manage and coordinate the good relationship with the external suppliers and the clients
  • Ensure good communication and support with the other analytical department heads within the New Product Development and Industrial Affairs network
  • Ensure the execution of the routine equipment maintenance and qualification program
  • Ensure the preparation and management of inspections and audits for the area Under his/her responsibility
  • Manage and facilitate audits of the analytical laboratories by regulatory authorities.

4. Team management

He / She will be responsible for the overall coordination of the activities, resources and appropriate ways of working with the support of the analytical team leaders

Define the annual department priorities and key milestones, organize, follow and supervise the weekly activities, identify the priorities and the resources needed

Define the annual development plan of the direct reports and support the development plan definition of the department

5. Budget and investments

He / She will be responsible for the annual department budget preparation and investment plan and to identify the new technologies and capabilities needed to maintain a state-of-the-art analytical department.

6. Improvement of ways of working and evolution of the center capabilities

Being member of the development center leadership team, he / she ensures an effective alignment and communication with the other functions and departments and will support the center for the expansion of the development network and capabilities

C) Ideal Experience and required qualifications

  • Academic graduation in chemistry or pharmacy with strong pharmaceutical or CHC/OTC background
  • 10-15 years’ experience in analytical development of pharmaceutical industries with strong technical knowledge of key analytical techniques and good understanding of pharmaceutical or CHC/OTC environment and regulation
  • Previous experience in team management with strong leadership and communication skills
  • Well organized and disciplined, result oriented and decision maker
  • Ability to work in teams and flexible
  • Fluent in French and English oral and written
