Missions

By joining our teams, you'll be putting your skills and enthusiasm to work to major projects.

The quasi-particle finite amplitude method has become the tool of choice for fast and accurate calculations of the nuclear strength function. Such a method is particularly interesting when applied to deformed nuclei, where traditional approaches based on large matrix diagonalisations become almost intractable.

Most of the developments have been made using Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov solvers based on zero-range Skyrme interactions, but recent work has shown that it is possible to apply the algorithm to numerical solvers using different interactions, such as Gogny and ab-initio. This latter development has been achieved at CEA using a newly created Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov solver written in C++.

The aim of the current project is therefore to extend the code to include the charge exchange process and to calculate β-decay rates for all medium and heavy nuclei between the valley of stability and the neutron drip line, but using a Gogny interaction instead.

One of the objectives is to create and share databases of β-decay rates with collaborators working in other directions in order to make a systematic comparison with existing data and to identify possible outliers and/or discrepancies. As several studies have shown, these calculations are sensitive to the spin-isovector sector of the interaction. By repeating the analysis for some selected Gogny interactions, it will thus be possible to perform a first sensitivity analysis and thus identify possible discrepancies..

As a candidate :

  • You will be actively working on the developpement of the CEA code for charge-exchange QFAM in C++.
  • You will create all the necessary documentation of the new implementation.
  • You will perfom analytical calculations in order to obtain rigorous mathematical expressions to be used in the numerical code.
  • You will perform large scale calculations on a cluster.
  • You will develop advance tools to analyse the large amount of data originated from the simulations.
  • You will work in close contact with the other members of the theory group.
  • You will organize meetings with the experimental colleagues in order to better support the ongoing experimental activity.

Profil recherché

You have a PhD in nuclear physics (or equivalent) and excellent skills in programming and numerical methods.

You have a good understanding of quantum mechanics and advanced mathematical mathematical methods.

You will be able to carry out numerical simulations and analyses of large volumes of data. Skills in Bayesian statistical methods would be an additional asset.

You must also be able to work well in a team and communicate results to your colleagues.

In line with the CEA's commitment to the integration of people with disabilities this job is open to all.
