Missions

Part of the Gypsum Materials & Formulation department in our CertainTeed Malvern Innovation Center, you will support new products development, with a focus on fire-resistant and more sustainable products, keeping in mind the business constraints (cost, raw materials availability, CO2 impact, process limitation) . Based on general knowledge of gypsum board formulation and lab testing, you will perform experiments, suggest and develop a research strategy to optimize a board's formulation matching the final targeted properties such as mechanical resistance or fire performance. Additionally, you will support the team in building a solid fire competency by developing new lab testing methods to better understand the link between the board’s formulation (fire additives) , its structural properties (porosity, density) and the failure at full scale application.

The main role:
  • Learn test methods and equipment used in the gypsum lab to formulate and characterize new products with a focus on fire-rated and acoustic products.
  • Produce lightweight lab prototype representative of industrial application with controlled process.
  • Perform critical analyses of the data and suggest an experimental plan to investigate the effect of formulation (organic, inorganic, low embodied carbon additives) and structural properties (porosity, microstructure, composite) on the final mechanical, fire or acoustic performances.
  • Contribute to building a solid fire and acoustic competency with the improvement of tests as well as the development of new test methods at lab scale.
  • Write concise reports and present main experimental results to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute and adhere to the lab safety and 5S principles.
A plus for this role:
  • You’ll be part of the Gypsum R&D team and the Research Center community, working closely with engineers, technicians and interns.
  • You’ll get the chance to work on a new innovative and lightweight product, with a strong sustainability dimension.
  • You’ll have interactions with our R&D Centers globally.
Extra information:

This is an 18-month mission, non-extendable and can often lead to full-time offer within the organization.
